TRACKING YOUR SITE STATISTICS
The first step in Search Engine Optimization is tracking the visitors to your web site. You wouldn't take
calculus without first understanding algebra, would you?
Luckily, There are FREE RESOURCES to track your web site statistics.
GOOGLE ANALYTICS captures a wealth of information about the visitors to your web site including
how they found you, how many pages they visited, return visits, keywords used, search engines used, top
pages, bounce rates and more. All of this information is displayed in an easy to read and understand format.
You can also create custom reports and set up Goal Conversions which will track visitors as they travel
through your web site and reach the goal (online sale, newsletter sign up) you have set.
When creating a Google Analytics account you will be given a piece of code to install on your web pages.
Due to the template system zen cart uses, installing the code is quite easy. Just copy and paste the code
to the bottom of the tpl_footer.php file of your template. The complete path to the file is:
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
If the above file does not exist, download the following file:
includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_footer.php
Add the code to the bottom of the file. Save the file and upload to:
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
