OPTIMIZING ZEN CART META TAGS

The basic installation of zen cart does a great job of optimizing the META tags of your web site. Zen cart is designed to pull information from the database and use that information for the meta tags. A quick check of the page source of your web site will show you the meta tags.

There are however, ways you can improve and customize the keywords.

CUSTOMIZE ZEN CART PAGE TITLE

The standard installation of Zen Cart will have the generic "Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce" page title. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the page title through the Zen Cart admin panel. Instead, that information is stored in the meta_tags.php file. To change the page title, download:
includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php

Find: define('TITLE', 'Zen Cart!'); and change Zen Cart! to your store name. Do not remove the opening and closing single quotes.

Find: define('SITE_TAGLINE', 'The Art of E-commerce'); and change The Art of E-commerce to the tagline you would like to use. Do not remove the opening and closing single quotes.

Save the file and upload to: includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php

CUSTOMIZING ZEN CART PRODUCT META KEYWORDS & DESCRIPTION

The standard installation of Zen Cart pulls the Keywords & description meta tags from the product database. In addition Zen Cart allows you to define custom keywords for each and every product!

In the Categories/Products section of your admin panel, you will see a Meta Tags icon. If the icon is black and white, custom keywords have not been defined. Click on the icon and a page will open allowing you to enter custom Meta Title, Keywords, and Description tags. Entering specific information and using targeted keywords here will help you increase your traffic!
